The Dewey School text with color-06_edit

The Mission of The Dewey School is to offer early learning rooted in play and the exploration of nature.

Founded in 2018, The Dewey School is a non profit, 501 (c)(3), that provides a dynamic, developmentally appropriate, early learning environment for children ages 3-5. Inspired, in part, by the philosophy the schools of Reggio Emilia, children are viewed as creative, competent, and capable.  The children are the center of the school and dictate the curriculum, policy, and experience based upon their needs and curiosities that are cultivated through developmentally appropriate experiences and provocations.

Children spend a minimum of 50% of the day not just outside, but immersed in nature.  Aptly located at Canterbury Shaker Village just outside of Concord, NH. The Dewey School offers a unique and reciprocating partnership between a museum/National Historic Landmark and a nature-based early learning environment. Keeping with the mission of the Shaker Village, The Dewey School provides a place for learning, reflection, and renewal of the human spirit through the connection with nature and the world around us.
