Our Program

A Preschool Built Around Childhood

The Dewey School is a multi-age preschool program for children ages 3–5, where children have the time, space, and freedom to learn through meaningful experiences, relationships, play, and exploration.

Our two classrooms—the Stick Room and the Stone Room—are named after one of our favorite books, Stick and Stone, a story that celebrates friendship, connection, and the idea that we are stronger when we have someone beside us.

Our multi-age environment allows children to learn alongside peers at different stages of development. Younger children have opportunities to learn from older classmates, while older children develop confidence, leadership, empathy, and a deeper understanding by sharing what they know.

At Dewey, childhood isn't something to rush through. We believe children deserve a place where they can wonder, investigate, create, take risks, get messy, ask questions, and follow their own ideas.

Learning Through the World Around Us

Our days are rooted in child-led, play-based, Reggio Emilia–influenced, and nature-based learning. Children spend meaningful time both indoors and outside, using the natural world as a classroom and a source of endless questions and discoveries.

A puddle can become an investigation.

A fallen branch can become a fort.

A question can become a project.

A walk through the forest can lead somewhere entirely unexpected.

Teachers observe, listen, ask questions, offer materials, and help children follow their ideas rather than simply telling them what to learn.

Two Classrooms, One Community

While children spend time within their classroom communities, the Stick Room and Stone Room are part of one larger Dewey community. Children have opportunities to build relationships with teachers and peers across the school while developing a strong sense of belonging.

We want every child to know:

You belong here. Your ideas matter. You are capable. And there is always more to discover.
