Our Mission
The Dewey School offers early learning rooted in play and exploration of the natural world.
Our Team

Miss Annie, Teacher/Atelierista
Annie Bell has attended art and early childhood education classes at both Montserrat College of Art and NHTI. She gained invaluable experience in child development and literacy during her years of service with AmeriCorps and its New Hampshire Reads program.
Over the last decade Annie has been a teacher at a Montessori school, inspired children at a local extended day program, and provided childcare in her home all the while regularly attending continuing education courses in both art and early childhood education.
Annie teaches group and private art lessons to both children and adults. She is so excited to be part of The Dewey School team and to help nurture children’s unique interests through process based art, play, and exploration. In a Mary Poppins sort of way, she is unflappable!

Miss Sam, Teacher
Sam Rice knew when she was little that teaching was her passion. She started volunteering at a local child care center at a young age and took college classes for teaching while in high school. She went onto NHTI where she graduated with a double associate's degree. Sam spent many years teaching at an environmental education school where she discovered her love for connecting children with nature and co-creating hands-on learning experiences that will keep them connected with the outdoors for their entire lives.

Sam grew up in Northfield exploring all that New Hampshire has to offer; camping, hiking, boating, skiing, gardening, or running around with her five older siblings. You will often find her hiking and gardening, or cooking for her family.

Miss Alexis, Teacher/Director
Alexis Matthews-Cheney is excited for a school year filled with adventure and endless learning opportunities. Alexis brings many years of experience teaching children of all ages combined with an associate's degree from NHTI and continued professional development through Antioch University New England. Alexis is passionate about creating hands-on learning opportunities. Finding what interests a child and sparking their curiosity creates joy and excitement for her as a teacher.

She grew up in Boscawen, and was blessed to experience all of the beauty New Hampshire has to offer. At a young age skiing, hiking, gardening, and cooking were instilled in Alexis. Now as a mother and wife she enjoys coaching, volunteering, cooking, spending time with her family, and passing on the joy of discovering New Hampshire’s great outdoors to her daughter.

Miss Erin, Teacher
Erin Meeh grew up in Defiance, Ohio, and attended college at Wright State University. Prior to her last semester of school she came to New Hampshire for the summer to be a nanny and fell in love (literally!).
She graduated with her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and quickly returned to New Hampshire to be with her now husband, Daimon.
Sticking with her passion of being with children she was a nanny for several years before getting married and having 3 children of her own.
Miss Erin enjoys traveling, spending time at the lake or the beach, and spending time with her family (both in NH and Ohio).

Miss Sara, Administrative Assistant
Sara Gow started at the Dewey School as a parent in 2019 and is now Assistant Administrator and substitute teacher. Much of her teaching and parenting style is centered around what she learned from how the Dewey School teachers interact with her daughter. Focusing on respecting the child for the unique individual that they are, she encourages (supervised) risky play allowing children to work through the process of problem solving and lending a hand when needed.
Board of Directors
The Dewey School Board of Directors is comprised of amazingly talented and dedicated volunteers. From a variety of disciplines, they offer varying view points and experiences that together support the mission and vision of the school.
