Welcome to ROOTS, a program supported by The Dewey School offering caregivers and their wee-ones, opportunities to connect with nature.
Our "Wee-Ones Walks" are an opportunity to utilize the extensive grounds of the Canterbury Shaker Village to provide both learning and social experiences for young children ages birth to 3 AND their caregivers.
"Wee-Ones Walks" are led by experienced environmental educator, Sarah Dunham-Miliotis. Sarah has a wealth of knowledge about the natural history of the Canterbury Shaker Village property. Each walk will be spent outdoors in the forests, fields, orchards, or at a pond, and may include a seasonally appropriate outdoor story time. There will be no explicit topic for each walk, rather we will take advantage of the seasons, weather, and our discoveries to guide our learning. The walks will take a deliberately slow pace to accommodate little ones, though parents should be prepared (wraps, carriers) to carry young children for part of the program, if necessary.
"Wee-Ones Walks" are scheduled twice a month on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:00. Adults are $8.00 per guided walk. Wee-ones are FREE. All weather offers opportunities for a variety of observations and experiences. Register and pay $50.00 for all seven walks and save!
We can't wait to get outside with you and your wee-one!
